INSTITUTES FOR MANUFACTURING INNOVATION

Request for Information (RFI)

The President of the United States has launched a major, new initiative focused on strengthening the innovation, performance, competitiveness, and job-creating power of U.S. manufacturing called the National Network for Manufacturing Innovation (NNMI). Key design tenets for the NNMI are captured within National Network for Manufacturing Innovation: A Preliminary Design a report issued by the White House National Science and Technology Council on Jan. 16, 2013 (http://www.manufacturing.gov/docs/NNMI_prelim_design.pdf). The NNMI is comprised of Institutes for Manufacturing Innovation (IMIs). The President has proposed up to 45 IMIs around the country. Congress is currently considering bills in both houses similar to the President's proposal. IMIs will bring together industry, academia (four- and two-year universities, community colleges, technical institutes, etc.), and federal and state agencies to accelerate innovation by investing in industrially-relevant manufacturing technologies with broad applications. This will provide the required innovation ecosystem to help bridge the gap between basic research and product development/fielding. It will provide shared assets to help companies, particularly small and medium enterprises, access cutting-edge capabilities and equipment and create an unparalleled environment to educate and train the workforce for advanced manufacturing implementation. Each Institute will have a specific technology or market focus and will serve as a regional hub of manufacturing excellence in that focus area, providing the critical infrastructure necessary to create a dynamic, highly collaborative environment spurring manufacturing technology innovations and technology transfer leading to production scale-up and commercialization. When established, each IMI will be a public-private partnership via a Cooperative Agreement and key part of the NNMI network of institutes.

A Request for Information (RFI) has been published on FedBizOps by the Government. The RFI seeks information about the following Technical Focus Areas:

Flexible Hybrid Electronics
Photonics
Engineered Nanomaterials
Fiber and Textiles
Electronic Packaging and Reliability
Aerospace Composites

In case of interest, please be sure to read RFI-RQKM-2014-0022 and amendments. The responses for the RFI will need to be received no later than October 10, 2014. While amendment 4 shows a closing date of 24 October, the government is working towards a closing date of Friday, October 10, 2014.

The Art Of The Stretch System Is To Get The Stretch The Same Consistency As The Current To Ride In So The Rider Is In Balance With The River. This Is A Lot Less Strain On The Body. It Also Makes For A Smooth Even Pull Up River With No Jerks Or Sudden Stops. Since Every Riding Spot Is Different The Professional Rider Has Different Length Segments To Match Different Spots. Overall This One Is Shaped Like An Otter However This One Does Have A Tendency To Get Caught In A Dive If The Rider's Weight Is Not Kept On The Back End To Prevent The Current From Taking The Nose To The Bottom So The Rider Must Adjust When Caught In a Dive. Don't Just Let It Go. You Will Just Have To swim To The bottom To Get It Anyway. You Might As Well Adjust Right Then And There And Put Weight On The Back End Of The Board While Your Exploring Underneath The River. It Does Have A Split Tail On The Rear Which Makes For Nice Rail To Rail Banking. It Also Has The Inverted Center So You Can Carry It Under Your Arm Like A SurfBoard With The Same Length As A3.

One Of The Things I Love About This Shape Is The Diversity Of Tricks It Allows. A Skilled Rider Can Do Any Trick On Any Shape Granted, But Some Tricks As A Shaper Has A Certain Shape In Mind, Just Work Better For Those Tricks. That Is Why A Good Shaper Rides The Boards They Make And Visualizes The Moves They Will Do Within The Movement And Bodily Timing With The Rapids Before They Make The Shape They Ride And So This Is The One That This Rider Can Do The Most Tricks Under The Water, On The Water And Above The Water With To Begin With, And Then Once The Tricks Are Mastered They Can Be Done On Any Board.
